Design plans for dog run renovation

On March 15, 2018 the NYC Parks Department presented the below presentation to the Community Board for review and approval. The new design for the dog runs takes into account the desires expressed at the community input session in 2016 as well as Park's assessment of tree health in the immediate area. While we are losing some space to protect the trees we are happy with the overall design which includes a hard surface with built in obstacles and water features, new fencing, benches, and entryway corral. Part of the current small dog run will be filled in to bring it to the same grade as the large dog run so they can be incorporated together. The rest of the current small run will be reverted back to lawn to protect the health of the trees in that area. The Community Board approved the proposal with the following conditions, based on input from community members present.

  • Try to incorporate some sort of soft surface area or AstroTurf mound.

  • Increase the height of the fences surrounding the dog runs and the plant beds to prevent dogs jumping over the fences.

  • Work with FoCHP to try and identify a temporary location for the dog run while construction occurs.

Construction on the project began in October of 2019 and is slated to be completed in October 2020.
